Cafe Triste

Cafe Triste is a wine bar in Chinatown, Los Angeles, and is a sister project to the shop Psychic Wines. The design focuses on natural materials and a timeless playfulness. A full new build-out was required in the space, which had been vacant for thirty years. The only full wall standing when work began was covered in red tiles of varying hues - an homage to which can be seen in the tiles behind the bar and in the bathroom. Glass block, cherry millwork, cork wainscoting, and mirrored storage above the bar complete the material palette to create a casual neighborhood establishment.
